Owen Meets new NI Chief Constable

Commenting on his meeting with PSNI Chief Constable Matt Baggott, Shadow Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Owen Paterson said: “I had an excellent meeting with the Chief Constable, at which we were joined by Shadow Northern Ireland Minister Lord Glentoran. Our private meeting allowed us to discuss a wide range of issues affecting the future of policing in Northern Ireland. “It gave us the opportunity to confirm our very firm belief in the operational independence of the Chief Constable. Only in this way will he be able to create as efficient and effective police service as possible within his budget.”
